The Islamabad High Court declined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) plea for a stay order on Imran Khan’s in-camera trial regarding the cipher case on Thursday.
Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb presided over Imran’s petition challenging the trial’s confidentiality, contesting the de-novo trial in jail, framing of charges, and a media gag order.
The court deferred the case’s hearing until today, December 28, following the issuance of notices.
Imran Khan, PTI’s founder chairman, contested his indictment in the cipher case and questioned the legitimacy of proceedings conducted by the special court established under the Official Secrets Act.
During today’s hearing, PTI’s counsel, Salman Usman Gul, urgently requested a stay order on the cipher trial.
However, the judge dismissed the plea, emphasizing the necessity of issuing notices to respondents beforehand.
Furthermore, the IHC has summoned the federation, seeking its response to the PTI petition, thereby setting the stage for forthcoming legal proceedings.
